Alex Murdaugh was arrested in 2021 for killing his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul. According to this article, Murdaugh’s double murder trial continued Wednesday in which details regarding his alleged opioid addiction were told to the jury. Previously, Murdaugh’s lawyers claimed he had been battling opioid addiction for years. During the trial Wednesday, a claim came about where it was mentioned Murdaugh spent $50,000 a week on drugs- drugs which Murdaugh allegedly purchased from his cousin.

THe killings took place at 4147 Moselle Road Islandton Sc. The property is 1,772 acres and was listed for sale for $3.9 million. It is believed that Alex owes $2 million on the property.

This cousin- Curtis “Eddit” Smith- has also been accused of being involved in a murder-for-hire plot. As a result, he allegedly shot Murdaugh in the head so that Murdaugh’s surviving son could collect a $10 million life insurance policy.

This trial is expected to last at least 2 more weeks. Murdaugh has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two related weapons charges. He has pleaded not guilty.

The ‘Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal’ is coming to Netflix as the platform’s latest true crime special. According to this website, “Murdaugh Murders: A Southern Scandal tells the story of the Murdaugh family, their rise to power and sway with law enforcement, and details the suspicious deaths that have destroyed their family legacy.”
