Singer Gracie Abrams Loves The Anonymity in New York City

Gracie Abrams, 25, has found solace in the bustling yet isolating charm of New York City. The Los Angeles-born singer, whose father is acclaimed director J.J. Abrams (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Lost), recently shared how the city offers her a refreshing sense of anonymity and creative inspiration.

In an interview with Nylon magazine, Gracie revealed why she thrives in New York. “Everything is more generative for me here,” she said. “It feels way easier to be alone, and I love being alone.” Despite her rising fame, she appreciates that her day-to-day life remains largely unchanged.

“I’ve definitely noticed a change [in people noticing me], and at the same time, my life day-to-day doesn’t look different,” she explained.

Gracie also expressed gratitude for the supportive fan interactions she experiences in New York. “I feel really lucky that 95 percent of my interactions with strangers are not with creepy dudes, for example, but young women or girls who are super emotional like I am,” she shared. “I appreciate that so much.”

This connection with her audience has allowed her to feel more grounded, even as her music continues to gain widespread recognition.

Gracie Abrams Songwriting

Earlier this year, Gracie opened up about how her approach to songwriting has shifted since the COVID-19 pandemic. In a conversation with Interview magazine, she explained how the experience of touring influenced her craft.

“The quarantine aspect didn’t change the course of my social life much,” she admitted. “But after the fact, when I got to experience touring for the first time, that was a form of exposure therapy that I actually loved leaning into. It shocked me and has influenced my writing in every capacity.”

Her time on the road has shaped her music, helping her understand the kind of songs she wants to perform and the emotions she hopes to evoke in her fans.

Despite her growing fame, Gracie has managed to keep a healthy distance from her online presence. “I don’t really feel very engaged with my algorithm,” she said. “I’m lucky that I don’t get my own stuff on [social media].”

Instead, her feed is filled with unexpected and wholesome content, from pregnancy announcements to videos of wild animals. “I don’t feel like I’m seeing a lot of myself, which I like,” she added.

Who Is Gracie Abrams Dad?

Gracie Abrams may come from a famous family, which surprised some fans that her dad is JJ Abrams.
