Randall Park On Barbie’s success should mean “make more movies by and about women!”

Randall Park was recently interviewed with Rolling Stone about his directorial debut in his upcoming film Shortcomings. Park’s Shortcoming film was just released around the Barbenheimer films, but he is not worried about the competition. “Hey, man: I see it as Barbenheimercomings. The three of us together have broken records! [Laughs] Ah, no. I can’t control any of that stuff, so it doesn’t affect me too much. “

Through the interview, Park also reflected on how Hollywood often fails to take the main message from films, with Greta Gerwig’s Barbie film being a good example. “I feel like, just in general, this industry is taking the wrong lessons.  For example, Barbie is this massive blockbuster, and the idea is: Make more movies about toys! No. Make more movies by and about women!” Park adds, “It’s Greta Gerwig!” Greta Gerwig truly deserves praise as she is the first female director working solo to reach this box-office milestone.

And Randall Park is right, Hollywood is pushing the Barbie movie’s success to make more toy-based films. As a result, the Barbie toy company Mattel, which co-produced the Barbie movie, announced 17 more movies in development. Lena Dunham is in the works of writing and directing a Polly Pocket film with Lily Collins as the main character. And Mattel and MGM will be collaborating with them to create the movie. Another Mattel movie Variety reported in 2021 is an action heist comedy depicted on the card game Uno, starring rapper Lil Yachty.
