Thor and Divergent actor Ray Stevenson died at 58 on Sunday, shortly before his 59th birthday, his publicist confirmed. According to People, his death was confirmed on Monday. As the article notes, the actor has been recently shooting an Italian movie, Cassino on Ischia, and had been hospitalized before he passed away.

However, the cause of death is yet to be announced by the actors family or representatives. No additional details have been disclosed following the announcement of his death.

Three of the movies Stevenson played in were the first Thor movies, 2011‘s Thor, 2013‘s Thor: The Dark World, and 2017‘s Thor: Ragnarok, in which he played Volstagg.

His debut on the big screens was in 1998′ The Theory of Flight. Another notorious role of Stevenson was Titus Pollo in the HBO series Rome. “That was one of the major years of my life. It made me sit down in my own skin and say, just do the job. The job’s enough.” he said about this role during an interview, as noted here.

He then played Knight Dagonet in 2004’s King Arthur and the Punisher in 2008’s Marvel Punisher: War Zone.

The British actor also played roles in Divergent, 2010’s The Other Guys, 2011’s Kill the Irishman, and 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation.
