Women dominated the night as artists such as RAYE, Dua Lipa, and Miley Cyrus took home major awards.

RAYE BRIT Awards 2024 Album Escapism

British singer-songwriter RAYE made waves at this year’s BRIT Awards by taking home six awards, including Album of the Year. As HOLR reported, the 26-year-old had been nominated for a record-breaking seven awards.

Upon realizing she’d won the night’s “master card” Album of the Year award, RAYE could be seen visibly overcome. “You just don’t understand what this means to me,” the singer exclaimed to a cheering crowd.

RAYE brought her grandmother onto the stage to accept the award, thanking her for her support, “My middle name is Agatha, and this is Agatha Dawson ladies and gentlemen,”

RAYE also won awards for album and song of the year, the latter for her hit single “Escapism.”

This year’s BRIT Awards wasn’t just a victory for RAYE, but also for female and non-binary artists.

Per a related article, 70% of the winners this year were women or non-binary.

Other winners included Dua Lipa for Best Pop Act, SZA won the International Artist of the Year award, and Miley Cyrus won International Song of the Year. Cyrus recently won a Grammy for the same song.

Australian superstar Kylie Minogue received the Global Icon Award.

“There’s a part of me that’s still the 14-year-old girl in her room dreaming of making music and being in this industry,” she said during her acceptance speech.
