April 16, 2025 – ‘RuneScape’ fans rejoice as ‘RuneScape: Dragonwilds’ early access shadow dropped on Steam without warning.

The heroes are on their way, and the dragons—they’ll never see it coming.”

Get ready, adventurers, because ‘RuneScape: Dragonwilds’ has just released as early access. The video game preview shadow dropped on Steam this Tuesday, surprising fans worldwide. It comes just two weeks after developer Jagex announced the game, which is set to officially release in 2026.

“Hello, world. A new frontier opens in Gielinor. Our new survival game set in the RuneScape universe is Coming Soon,” Dragonwilds developers announced on Instagram. In typical RuneScape fashion, they added, “Adventurers wanted. Heroes needed. Lunch not provided.”

“Coming Soon” apparently meant within fourteen days, because the developers wasted no time bringing the game to our computers.

‘RuneScape: Dragonwilds’ Early Look and What to Expect

Dragonwilds is an open-world survival crafting spin-off of the classic RuneScape game. Many of the game’s elements will be familiar to long-time fans, including iconic locations, basic skills like woodcutting, and the ever-present rat and troll enemies. But Dragonwilds is also bringing new twists to the franchise.

A new power called Anima is available to players. Harnessing this ability, they’ll be able to take down new nature-infused foes. Tree chopping has also become easier, with gamers being able to throw their access and cut down multiple trees at once.

Gamers are in for a treat, because the primary location of the game, “Ashenfall”, looks stunning.

‘RuneScape: Dragonwilds’ Trailer

Dragonwilds’s Steam description reads: “On RuneScape’s forgotten continent of Ashenfall, dragons have awoken. Gather, build, skill and craft to survive in this co-operative (1-4) survival crafting game. Only by mastering survival and uncovering ancient secrets can they hope to slay the Dragon Queen—alone or with allies.”
