Scarlett Johansson Talks MCU: “Natasha is dead.”
Scarlett Johansson opens up about circulating rumors of her returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and her answer might surprise some fans.
Star actress Scarlett Johansson has played roles far and wide. From college graduate Charlotte in Lost in Translation to hostess Molly in Chef and cybernetic human Motoko Kusanagi in Ghost in the Shell, Johansson’s filmography contains it all. But arguably Johansson’s most famous role is Natasha Romanoff or the Black Widow in The Avengers.
As the Black Widow, Johansson stars in no less than nine MCU movies, including Iron Man 2, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War. The last Avengers film she took part in was Avengers: Endgame. In an infamous moment that still haunts many Marvel fans, Natasha sacrificed herself in the fight against Thanatos. Her iconic portrayal of the spy and assassin has impressed fans far and wide, but many miss her character.
As new plans for the MCU: Phase Six are revealed and new Avengers films are on the horizon, fans are wildly speculating about Natasha’s return to the universe. In a recent interview with InStyle, Johansson addresses these rumors.
“She’s dead. Okay?”
Knowing exactly what fans are speculating, Johansson addresses the rumors once and for all. “Natasha is dead,” she tells InStyle. She explains that fans “just don’t want to believe it. They’re like, ‘But she could come back!’”
But Johansson knows Natasha is not coming back. Even more so, she does not think Natasha should come back: “I think the balance of the entire universe is held in her hand. We’re going to have to let it go. She saved the world. Let her have her hero moment.”
Scarlett Johansson’s next mission: Dinosaurs
