According to PEOPLE, Shiloh requested to drop “Pitt” from her last name back in May.

In California, the law requires that anyone seeking a legal name change must publish the legal forms in a newspaper for one month before a judge can approve it.

PEOPLE has also confirmed that Shiloh’s name-change documents were filed on May 27, which was also her 18thbirthday.

This sparked major controversy at the time, as Pitt was still married to actress Jennifer Anniston.

The following year in 2005, Pitt and Anniston call it quits after five years of marriage.
