Sia opens up about late Autism Spectrum diagnosis
Sia features on an episode of Rob Has a Podcast where she discusses her late Autism diagnosis. “I’m on the spectrum, and I’m in recovery and whatever,” said Sia. Sia further continues saying, “For 45 years, I was like … ‘I’ve got to go put my human suit on,’” she said. “And only in the last two years have I become fully, fully myself.”
Why was Sia’s movie controversial?
The ‘unstoppable’ star opens up two years later from her controversial film that received lots of backlash from the Autism community. Within the music film, Maddie Ziegler starred as a teenager with non-verbal autism. This stirred a lot of criticism as Ziegler starred as the main role and appeared in a controversial scene where she was face-down held in restraints in an episode of overstimulation. When the teaser came out at the time, Sia took her thoughts on Twitter and defended the film. But once the film was nominated in 2021 for two Golden Globe Awards, Sia apologized on Twitter before deleting her account.
Is Sia sober now?
Sia who married Dan Bernard earlier this month also revealed that she is now sober. In the past, she has discussed her substance abuse issues but had been sober for 8 years when she tweeted in 2018, “Eight years sober today. I love you, keep going. You can do it.” But, after her 2021 music film was released Sia said, “I was suicidal and relapsed and went to rehab”.
