Steve Jones on Sex Pistols’ Future, Teenage Cancer Trust Gig, and Scrapped Alex Turner Collab

January 29, 2025: Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones recently spoke with NME about the band’s upcoming Teenage Cancer Trust show, their reunion with Frank Carter, and a scrapped collaboration with Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner.

Teenage Cancer Trust Performance

The Sex Pistols will perform at London’s Royal Albert Hall alongside The Who and James Arthur to support young cancer patients. Frank Carter will take over vocals in place of John Lydon, who remains estranged from the band.

Band’s Future with Frank Carter

Jones praised Carter’s energy and the chemistry within the group but remained uncertain about future projects. “We’re having fun, and the energy feels right,” he said.

Scrapped Alex Turner Collaboration

Jones revealed a planned songwriting session with Arctic Monkeys’ Alex Turner that never happened due to scheduling conflicts. “It just didn’t come together,” he admitted.

Sex Pistols’ 1978 US Tour Revival

The band is also releasing Live in the USA 1978 albums, capturing their controversial American tour that ended with Lydon’s departure and the group’s dissolution until 1996.

Thoughts on the Pistol Biopic and Politics

Jones addressed mixed reactions to the 2022 TV biopic Pistol, based on his memoir Lonely Boy, and distanced himself from Lydon’s public support for Donald Trump. “Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, but that’s not where I stand,” he said.

What’s Next?

With their upcoming gig, the Pistols prove their rebellious spirit is alive. Whether this marks a long-term comeback remains uncertain, but Jones continues to embrace his punk legacy.
