The Met Gala is happening this year on Sep 13th at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in a smaller setting.
The 2021 Met Gala theme and subsequent museum exhibition focus on the theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion”, with Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman and Naomi Osaka as co-chairs for this year’s Met Gala.
No other stars have confirmed their attendance yet as The Met Gala’s guest has always been closely guarded with attendees generally kept secret until the event itself. Although the seating chart is speculative, it went viral with many social media users disgruntled with some of the placements, such as TikTok influencer Addison Rae being seated with Lady Gaga, Donatella Versace, Naomi Campbell and Beyoncé.
It will be a two-part exhibition of American fashions, with the first opening during the Met Gala in mid-September and the second opening in May 2022.
According to the Met’s director Max Hollein, the exhibit is meant to depict “the shifting tides of American fashion” in its curation that addresses issues of social justice, identity and diversity.
Instagram is sponsoring the exhibit, which will present pieces such as a voluminous pink taffeta dress by Christopher John Rogers, an upcycled white silk organza piece from Conner Ives’ “American Dream” collection, and more.
The Red Carpet will be hosted by Keke Palmer and Ilana Glazer with Vogue exclusively covering the red carpet.
