Back in 2016, Gwyneth Paltrow allegedly injured a man during a skiing trip in Utah. On Tuesday, the actress appeared in court and we have the latest update on the trial’s status!

Gwyneth Paltrow Ski Collision History

As noted by CNN, Gwyneth Paltrow supposedly crashed into 76-year-old Terry Sanderson during a skiing trip at Deer Valley Resort in February 2016. The accident, which happened in Park City, Utah, left Sanderson seriously injured.

Sanderson originally filed a lawsuit in 2019 and claimed that Paltrow caused him “a brain injury and four broken ribs” when she knocked him down hard. He also said that the actress did not give him any medical attention.

According to The Independent, Sanderson initially wanted more than three million US dollars for the damages but has since lowered his demand to just US$ 300,000. Meanwhile, Paltrow is hoping to get her legal fees covered.

Sanderson vs Paltrow

Paltrow defended herself in a countersuit, saying that Sanderson was coming toward her direction from uphill and “plowed into her back”, causing her “a full body blow.”

Lawrence Buhler, Sanderson’s attorney, argued that “distracted skiers caused crashes” and insisted that Paltrow should have known “looking up the mountain and to the side while skiing down the mountain was dangerous”, NPR reported. Stephen Owens, Paltrow’s attorney, counterargued that the plaintiff’s claim is a fabrication, citing that “skiing comes with an inherent risk.”

Eyewitness Testified

As reported by NBC, the only eyewitness to the skiing accident was Sanderson’s acquaintance Craig Ramon. Ramon testified that Paltrow slammed into Sanderson’s back and “left the scene without identifying herself or asking if anyone needed help.”

The dispute about who is to blame continues as neither party wants to take responsibility. Stephen Owens has pressed Ramon about his testimony, to which Ramon admitted that he might not have remembered the sequence of events correctly. The truth is still up in the air, but Paltrow suspected that Sanderson could be “overstating his injuries” and taking advantage of her wealth and celebrity status.
