Did Elon Musk Lose a Child?

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has 12 kids as of 2024 but he’s not close with all of them. While Elon Musk’s children are all alive, he has an estranged relationship with his daughter Vivian Jenna Wilson. Born as Xavier Musk, Vivian publicly transitioned and legally changed her name and gender in 2022. Upon transitioning, Vivian revealed that she is not close with her father. She also said she wishes to legally change her last name.

In a court filing, Vivian stated that she “no longer lives with or wishes to be related to [her] biological father in any way, shape or form.” Musk did not take too kindly to Vivian transitioning and blamed it on what he calls the “woke mind virus.” In an interview with psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson, Elon said: “My son Xavier is dead—killed by the woke mind virus.”

Vivian has since countered these claims. She describes Musk as a “cold” and “cruel” parent who often criticized her femininity and queerness during her upbringing. Furthermore, she accused him of being an absentee father, adding to the emotional strain between them.

While Elon Musk has not lost a child in the literal sense, the deep estrangement from Vivian signifies a profound emotional loss. It does not appear that the two have any plans of reconciling in the future at this time.
