Rumors have been swirling regarding a viral news headline alleging that Hamas called for an end to the war after Trump was elected the 47th president of the USA.

Trump Ending War

November 8, 2024This article by Newsweek went viral after Trump was elected president because it alleged that Hamas called for an ‘Immediate’ end to the war with Israel following Trump’s win over Harris during the recent presidential election.

Hamas Calls For End Of War

The article soon went viral after it was alleged that Trump’s win ended the war between Israel and Hamas. However, this is not entirely the case. As the article explains, a senior Hamas official has reportedly called for an immediate halt to Israel’s conflict with the group in the Gaza Strip. As well, they have advocated for a plan to secure Palestinian statehood.

Below is a quote outlined in the article by Hamas Political Bureau member and spokesperson Basem Naim, telling Newsweek:

“The election of Trump as the 47th president of the USA is a private matter for the Americans, but Palestinians look forward to an immediate cessation of the aggression against our people, especially in Gaza, and look for assistance in achieving their legitimate rights of freedom, independence, and the establishment of their independent self-sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.”

Trump has stated to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the past that he wants “Israel to wrap up the war in Gaza by the time he returns to office” as outlined in this article by Times of Israel. When Trump was elected as the 47th president of the USA, Netanyahu said this in a statement (Newsweek): “Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.”

As showcased in this article by PBS News, Trump has also previously vowed to bring “peace” to the Middle East if elected.

Hamas War Ends?

The war between Israel and Hamas is not over, despite widespread controversy surrounding the above claims and eye-catching title. As some took away from the article posted online, Hamas hopes that Trump will not support Israel in its continued aggression and that they want peace, seemingly if their terms for peace are accepted.

As of right now, Trump has been elected but he has not officially taken office yet. As a result, we will have to wait and see what comes about from his presidency in regard to his response to the Israel- Hamas war that is ongoing.
