Kamala Harris Celebrity Endorsements

As the TikToker above claims, there are many factors that could’ve contributed to Harris losing against Trump during the 2024 election. As the TikToker explains, there are alleged theories about “empty marketing” playing a factor in Harris losing to Trump. For example, it seems as though Harris was primarily campaigning to win the votes of young voters and women- those of which are also online. As a result, the TikToker explains that Harris leaned into “brain rot trends” such as “Kamala is brat” in a nod to Charli XCX’s trending album. However, this could’ve confused the voting public as it was left unclear what this meant, exactly. This statement does not dive into her views or values which could’ve left voters unsure about her plans if she took office.

This CBC article alleges that celebrity endorsements may have actually hurt instead of helped Harris’ campaign in this instance. Even though Harris was endorsed by big names such as Beyonce and Cardi B, it seems, as though this didn’t swing the American vote in her favor because it was all about star power rather than honing in on key messaging.

Here is what one commenter from the above TikTok video claimed about the celeb endorsements showcased by Harris during her campaign:

Trump Joe Rogan Podcast

When the TikToker did a quick scroll on Harris‘ TikTok platform, it was all about celebrity endorsements and videos of Harris dancing to trending audio. However, when comparing Trump’s TikTok platform, it seems as though there is more voter information available. There are also videos of him verbally attacking Harris and even though they aren’t “gracious” they help diminish her credibility. This seemingly shows key differences in their messaging online and how they tried to appeal to their voters.

The TikToker explains that Trump took it up a notch by meeting his “ideal voting base” of young men and men who haven’t voted yet in which he took to “alpha male podcasts” to get his messaging further across. For instance, his appearance with Joe Rogan. Although both candidates leaned into high-profile celeb endorsements at some point or another- Harris with Taylor Swift and Trump with Elon Musk– it came to looking at each respective campaign as a whole and the influence behind the impact of these endorsements in the end. In this instance, it is alleged that Harris’ hurt her rather than helped her while Trump’s seemingly succeeded in giving him a boost to win.

What are your thoughts on each campaign? Do you think celeb endorsements hurt or helped the presidential candidates?
