In light of Pride Month, Disney+ is releasing a filmed version of the Off-Broadway stage production of Trevor: The Musical. Read everything you need to know and watch the trailer below.
Trevor: The Musical is an Off-Broadway adaptation of the 1995 Academy Award-winning short film, Trevor, directed by Peggy Rajski. The story follows a 13-year-old boy who has an adorable fascination with Diana Ross, loves acting, singing, and dancing and is just an overall enthusiastic, charming kid. As a teenager, and even with all the enthusiasm he has for the world and his vivid imagination, Trevor finds himself struggling to navigate his own identity and how he can fit in with the rest of his schoolmates. This becomes even more difficult when his crush was revealed to everyone in school, putting him in a darker spotlight that changed the trajectory of his life.
Trevor, the short film, had moved everyone with its story of self-discovery and self-acceptance. It became such a moving tale that it inspired the foundation of the LGBTQ youth suicide prevention nonprofit organization, The Trevor Project.
The Trevor Project is the world’s largest suicide prevention and mental health organization for LGBTQ+ youth. Its purpose is to provide crisis counselors to those who are in somewhat the same position as Trevor did in the film and musical. Crisis counselors are available for everyone 24/7 by phone, text, and web chat. Visit TheTrevorProject.org/Get-Help to learn more.
To celebrate Pride Month, Disney+ will release the film version of the musical as a feature for their Disney+ Pride Collection.
