Tell us all about how you got your start in the industry.

I grew up in Fresno, CA, and started acting almost 20 years ago. It was a production of “Oliver The Musical” that did it. I definitely always had a flair for the dramatic you could say. I loved making movies as a kid with my grandparents and making them pretend to be Captain Hook and Wendy. When I turned 20, I left home behind and moved to Los Angeles and never looked back. Soon after, I booked a regional tour of Beauty and the Beast as Lumiere and it was off to the races. I realized the longer you stay in the game and try, the luckier you get.

You will be starring in Amazon Prime’s “This is Me…Now” alongside Jennifer Lopez. Talk to us about this exciting project and your role in the film.

I have to say this experience was even wilder than anything I could’ve ever dreamed up. You grow up imagining what your big break is going to be like, but you never imagine Jennifer López is going to be there too. To get to play her gay best friend was such an iconic and important moment. I think seeing queer characters in media is just as important now as it’s ever been. On that note, this film is the type of movie that redefines the modern musical itself. It’s going to shake people up and drop them into a world of decadence and magic. It’s so powerful and unlike anything I’ve ever seen before. From stunning sets and visuals to brilliant dance numbers, it gets served to you on a silver platter with a cast like JLo, Ben Affleck, Keke Palmer, Post Malone, Sofia Vergara, and so many others. It was truly out of this world to work on.

What was it like to work with Jennifer Lopez?

I have to say from start to finish it was a dream to get to work together. Playing one of her best friends was so epic and it felt like playtime when we were doing scenes. She truly was like a fairy godmother and brought us into her world. To get to learn from her and connect on such a personal project only heightened the stakes and made the work so much more meaningful. You’ll see that in the film. We had to create a deep chemistry together that could live and breathe in this massive world we made. She couldn’t have been kinder and more gracious and it’s been such a ball celebrating this last year with her the whole way up to now. I’ll always appreciate her for giving us such a life-changing opportunity.

Can you talk to us about some of the other projects you’ve worked on to date during your career as an actor?

I’ve gotten to truly be a journeyman actor in the sense of I’ve gotten to explore so many different worlds in one lifetime. Prior to the pandemic, I performed off Broadway in “The Big Bang Theory The Musical” in Times Square. I love live theater and getting an immediate reaction from the audience. I felt on cloud nine getting to go to work in Times Square every day. I think starting off in musical theater really gave me a discipline for the art of acting. I continue to work in theater as well as television, but am open to it all. I’ve also gotten to do some amazing commercials for Amazon, HBO, Discovery+, Netflix, CeraVe, and White Claw among others.

What do you love to do in your spare time?

I’ve always believed to be a true artist you have to build your life outside of your art just as passionately as you do your art itself. Acting takes up quite a bit of my time, but I do have some hobbies. Recently I’ve taken up learning the piano and though my neighbors might not love this, I have a ball with it and find it relaxing. Other than that, I’m quite a foodie and have a zest for traveling. I actually got the call for this film last year while I was in Rome celebrating my boyfriend Grant’s birthday. That might be my lucky city now.

What’s next for you?

I have a film coming out titled “June and John”, written and directed by Luc Besson (Taken 1,2, and 3, The Fifth Element) which we shot during the pandemic that I think is going to be really wonderful and will be released later this year. Other than that, I’m excited to get to travel to Europe this summer and really celebrate a year of dreams coming true. I want to savor every moment and enjoy the ride. I feel like it’s only the beginning.
