Hunter Schafer, the star of HBO’s Euphoria, recently shared a video on her TikTok story in which she revealed an unexpected update on her passport: her gender marker now lists her as male.

In the video, Schafer, who is one of Hollywood’s most prominent transgender actors, explained the significance of the update. “I’m sure most of us remember on I think the first day of Trump’s presidency, he signed an executive order to declare only two genders recognized by the state, male and female assigned at birth,” Schafer said. She continued, “As a result of this, which I wrote down because I want to get it right, the Bureau of Consular Affairs has frozen passport applications requesting a gender marker change or renewals or new applications with a gender marker deferring from an applicant’s gender assigned at birth.”
Schafer’s openness about her experience sheds light on the ongoing challenges faced by transgender individuals, especially regarding official documentation. As one of the leading voices in Hollywood’s transgender community, Schafer’s revelations bring attention to the implications of the Trump administration’s policies on gender recognition.
The actor, also known for her roles in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and Amazon’s Blade Runner 2099, continues to use her platform to speak out on issues affecting the LGBTQ+ community.
