In an interview on Wednesday, John Legend exclusively disclosed to Courtney Lopez of E! News that Chrissy came up with the name, and it turned out to have an unexpected family link.
Esti Maxine Stephens, the singer’s third child with wife Chrissy Teigen, was born on January 13. The 2-week-old daughter of John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, is named in remembrance of numerous family members he explained.
Legend said, “Once Chrissy told me the idea, I was like, ‘Oh, my great-grandmother’s name was Esther.”
He added, “We already wanted to name her middle name Maxine in honour of my grandma, whose middle name was Maxine. So, it’s a lot of my family in the name.”
Early this month, roughly a week after the couple welcomed their newborn, the singer, and Teigen, revealed the name of their baby girl.
On January 19, Legend posted a photo of his children Luna, 6, and Miles, 4, cuddling a baby girl Esti Maxine Stephens on Instagram. He captioned it, “We welcomed Esti Maxine Stephens to our family, and our house is bursting with love and pleasure.”
Nearly two years after Teigen lost her unborn baby Jack in 2020 at 20 weeks, the couple, conceived Esti through in vitro fertilisation.
Chrissy posted on Instagram on August 3: “The last few years have been a blur of emotions to say the least, but joy has filled our home and hearts again.” The actress continued, “1 billion shots later (in the leg lately, as u can see!) we have another on the way,” in reference to her IVF experience.
