When asked a few questions, this is what Jovana Prica had to say:

1.Can you tell us what inspired you to start Silkzees, and some of the challenges you faced when bringing your idea to life?

I’ve always been a quality over quantity kind of girl, so when I got pregnant with my daughter I just wanted to source the very best items for her, by being quite particular on all of the fabrics that touched her delicate skin. I wasn’t sparing any expenses for my miracle baby. About two months into her life, I started noticing a growing bald patch at the back of her which was leading to a rash. Seeing as this was my first child, I started to panic – turns out that the friction from her cotton bedding and laying on her back was the cause, and this is surprisingly extremely common with newborns. Immediately, I started seeking a solution.

Knowing silk has become a widely known fabric for benefitting hair quality in adults – as it is a naturally hypoallergenic fabric, temperature regulating, moisture wicking, and hydrating. To top it off, it protects the fragile hair on the baby’s head. With this, the Silkzees fitted bassinet solution was born!

It took 14 months to bring this product to market, after numerous prototypes alterations, factory changes, and finally logistical hurdles to get Silkzees into the hands of new mamas. I have never created and launched a product before, and it was a lot more difficult than anticipated.

This isn’t something that exists on the market that I simply placed my logo on. Every single part of the Silkzees Bassinet Solution was carefully thought out, and sourced. I had to find a factory that used toxic & chemical free fabrics, that had 25 momme Grade 6A silk, that understood my design and vision, and could mass produce it. Then it was a matter of going back and forth with the packaging manufacturer and ensuring that we could ship everything in time for my launch. However, as most things during the pandemic, this proved to be the most difficult since there were no cargo ships available. In the end, I air shipped most of the product until the ships were able to leave port.

2. What does the future have in store for Silkzees?

The Silkzees philosophy is “Only the best for my babies & yours”. As such, my children (I now have 2) and I have been testing out two of our prototypes, which will come to market in the near future.

Inflation and lack of cargo ships has made production very challenging, however I believe in the Silkzees products & brand so strongly.

I’m truly very proud of these products and believe that every child should be sleeping laying their delicate heads on silk.

Think about how much silk benefits the hair for adults – well this is its newborn baby counterpart! And on top of that, Silkzees is moisture wicking, hypoallergenic and prevents rashes on the back of babies heads, and bald spots, while also being eco-friendly!
