Donald J. Trump has won the 2024 presidential election. But what does this mean for the rest of the world in terms of what comes next?

Trump Wins Reaction

As outlined here on DW, some swing states likely played a key role in Trump’s re-election. Reports claimed that Trump won the battlegrounds in; Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Wisconsin, and Georgia. Following these reports, Trump was named the 47th president of the USA.

Reactions poured in from across the globe on social media, with many World Leaders offering their congratulations to Trump on his latest win.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau congratulated Trump with a message on X:

As stated here in the Independent, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy also congratulated Trump, saying, “I recall our great meeting with President Trump back in September, when we discussed in detail the Ukraine-U.S. strategic partnership, the Victory Plan, and ways to put an end to Russian aggression against Ukraine.”

However, Trump’s win was also met with mixed emotions from others worldwide.

For instance, this Vanity Fair article went viral for its cover art.

The cover outlines how Trump has 34 felony counts, 1 conviction, 2 cases pending, 2 impeachments, and 6 bankruptcies, yet the public has chosen him as the next president of the USA.

The photo was accompanied by the caption, “Four years after launching an unprecedented attack on democracy and leaving the White House in disgrace, the convicted felon and twice-impeached politician will return to Washington, DC, as the 47th president of the United States.”

This caused a heavy debate in the comment section, with people sharing their opinions on Trump’s win and whether or not it was seen as positive or negative for the American public- and the rest of the world.

Trump Wins Now What?

Social media platforms and discussion forums such as Reddit have also been diving into what it could mean for the world now that Trump has been elected president. This thread in particular details some concerns that others have about Trump being in the White House again, and what it could mean for other countries.

Some worry that it could negatively impact countries such as Palestine and Ukraine or that Trump’s new presidency could mean Americans having to pay more due to tariffs. Concerns surrounding immigration and women’s healthcare have also been widely discussed, as topics such as abortion have been heavily debated in the months and weeks leading up to the recent election.

However, as outlined in this article by BBC, some of these concerns above could hopefully be met with solutions. Trump has promised to bring “peace” to the Middle East in the past, in which people are eager to hear about how he plans to do so because this has not yet been revealed.

For this moment, we will have to wait and see what Trump has in store for the USA as he takes office a second time.
