As mentioned in the video, her mother claims she was “punished” for dancing. The video was reportedly sent to school administrators which may have cost her a scholarship. The video of Kaylee dancing with her friends was posted online. Her mother was there watching and did not see an issue with Kaylee dancing.

Allegedly once the video was shown to the principal, she was called in and interrogated about her dancing. Reportedly, her faith was also questioned during this sit-down conversation with her principal. As well, her mother claimed Kaylee was part of student government and was considered for a high-achieving scholarship. However, this was all seemingly taken away with one conversation. Accoridng to her mother, Kaylee was signaled out so she believes someone should be held accountable.

People have come out to support Kaylee during this time, wearing shirts and pins that read “Let the Girl Dance.”

Accoridng to this article, the principal, Jason St. Pierre, requested a leave of absence for the rest of the year following the incident.
