Margot Robbie talks about her ‘Barbie’ role
The “hottest blonde ever” Margot Robbie spills the tea about her upcoming movie “Barbie” directed by Greta Gerwig. Robbie kills it on the new Vogue cover wearing a Barbie-esque pink Versace dress.
Who is the new Barbie?
Margot Robbie explains that during the casting process, she was looking for someone that had “Barbie energy.” Robbie and Gerwig believed that the “Wonder Woman” Gal Gadot exuded that energy. At the time Gadot declined the offer and Robbie decided to take on the lead as Barbie. Although she had pitched the Barbie idea to Greta Gerwig, Robbie tells Vogue, that ‘she’s not even sure she owned a Barbie’.
“This is going to sound stupid, but I really didn’t even think about playing Barbie until years into developing the project,” said Margot Robbie.
Ultimately, Robbie had to transition into character as she grew up building forts and making mud pies to now acting as a real-life Barbie. To get into character, Greta recommended Robbie a Podcast explaining to her, “You know how you have a voice in your head all the time? This woman, she doesn’t have that voice in her head.”

Ryan Gosling received daily gifts on Barbie set from Margot Robbie
Speaking of transitioning into character – Robbie helped Ryan Gosling find the Ken in him by leaving him a gift every day on set.
“She left a pink present with a pink bow, from Barbie to Ken, every day while we were filming. They were all beach-related. Like puka shells, or a sign that says ‘Pray for surf.’ Because Ken’s job is just beach. I’ve never quite figured out what that means. But I felt like she was trying to help Ken understand, through these gifts that she was giving,” said Gosling.
