It’s never too late to participate in this year’s Movember! Here’s how you can get involved.

Movember: How To Get Involved

Movember is an annual fundraising event that aims to spread awareness about men’s health. What started as a fun dare between 30 men in Australia, ended up becoming one of my biggest movements in men’s health. During Movember’s first few years, the movement raised funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. And as soon as the Mo-vement garnered popularity worldwide, Movember has since partnered with several prostate cancer foundations in several participating countries. Since 2016, it also expanded its partnership with breast cancer research foundations to help both Mo brothers and Mo sisters in need. Fast forward to 2020, Movember has gathered support from more than 6 million Mo brothers and sisters worldwide and has funded over 1,250 men’s health projects. Their recent project lately is to raise awareness on men’s mental health.

Since Movember is not strictly for men anymore, anyone can support the cause without needing to grow a moustache. Below, is a list of things you can do to get involved in Movember.

The Basic: Grow A Moustache

I know I did say that you don’t need to grow a moustache to participate but this is the most basic and easiest way to get involved in Movember. It might be too late now to do this, but maybe next year?

Here are the rules:

First, participants need to register at Movember.com and they must start at the beginning of November with a clean shaven face. For the entire month, Mo Bros must grow and groom a moustache. No cheating! Meaning, no fake moustaches, beards, or goatees. Mo Bros must grow their most authentic moustache no matter how itchy or patchy. Lastly, use this newfound power (moustache) to create conversation and raise funds like a true gentleman.

Move for Movember

Can’t grow a moustache? No problem! You can get involved by simply moving. Suicide prevention awareness is one of the objectives that Movember prioritizes and according to them, one man takes his own life every minute of every day. For the entire month, participants must commit to walking or running for 60 Kilometers. That’s for the 60 men we lose every hour. It doesn’t have to be intense either, just simply move. Call on your friends or family to join you or encourage them to donate on your behalf. Register at Movember’s website to start.

Host A Mo-Ment

You can also get involved by hosting a virtual event! You can raise funds by conducting a fun event that people will want to join. Movember suggested either having an online shave-down event, or a virtual scavengers hunt, or even a talent show. Their website also put out guides and resources on how to conduct a successful Mo-event.

Lastly, Get Creative.

There’s no limit to what you can do for Movember. Think outside the box. Get creative. Maybe grow some brows instead of a moustache? Whatever. As long as you can meet your goal and raise awareness for men’s health, then your Mo brothers, sisters and I are proud of you. Before you start, sign up first at movember.com
