The Olympics has decided not to revisit the previous ruling for gymnast Jordan Chiles, leaving her stripped of a bronze medal that she once held.

What Happened with Jordan Chiles at the Olympics?

Initially, Chiles had celebrated her third-place finish on the medal stand in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Chiles had won a bronze medal for her performance in the floor exercise final on August 5^th, placing just behind her fellow teammate Simone Biles.

Six days after the event, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) ruled that Romania’s Ana Barbosu would be awarded the bronze medal instead.

The decision required Chiles to return her medal.

The controversy stemmed from the last-minute change to Chiles’ score, which moved her up significantly in the ranks to third place.

In response to the IOC, USA Gymnastics challenged the decision and submitted video evidence to CAS, stating that Chiles rightfully earned the bronze medal.

On August 12^th, USA Gymnastics took to X to release an official statement.

“USA Gymnastics was notified by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) on Monday that their rules do not allow for an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when conclusive new evidence is presented,” USA Gymnastics wrote.

“We are deeply disappointed by the notification and will continue to pursue every possible avenue and appeal process, including to the Swiss Federal Tribunal, to ensure the just scoring, placement, and medal award for Jordan,” they continued.

On August 6^th, Chiles took to Instagram to thank all of her fans for their support.

“Words can’t express how proud I am of myself… this has been an amazing experience and your girl is an individual medalist!” Chiles wrote.

“Thank you to everyone for all the love and support I truly appreciate it! My gymnastics speaks louder than many peoples words… ya’ll we did it,” Chiles continued.
