Leaving home without having to apply makeup coverage would be a dream for me, especially when it’s hot and sticky out. Unfortunately not all of us wake up to flawless, even-tone skin – this is why foundation exists! Foundations are a temporary fix to whatever our skin feels like going through. From light, medium to full coverage, to dewy, matte and satin finishes, there are many to choose from. I’m here to help you choose the perfect lightweight summer foundation that will leave your skin feeling like skin, a foundation that will enhance your beauty from within.
1. Charlotte Tilbury Light Wonder Foundation, $59.00 CAD
One of my favourites from Charlotte Tilbury is her Light Wonder Foundation. Being a makeup artist herself, Charlotte is all about natural, lit-from-within skin. This is a sheer coverage foundation that contains SPF 15. Additionally, Light Wonder evens out imperfections and illuminates the complexion, as well as contains active ingredients that work to reduce wrinkles for baby-soft, dewy skin.
2. NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, $55.00 CAD
Out of the tinted moisturizers I’ve tried, NARS Pure Radiant has to be my favourite. This oil-free tinted moisturizer works to improve the skin’s overall condition while providing a veil of colour and sun protection. It helps to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation and dark spots in just four weeks through ingredients that encourage natural cell renewal. Who doesn’t love coverage with added skincare benefits? Soft and smooth to the touch upon application, your skin will be hydrated and glowing all day long.
3. MAKEUP FOR EVER Water Blend Face & Body Foundation, $57.00 CAD
If you’re not familiar with water based foundations, let me tell you they’re great if you have dehydrated skin (high water content) and/or oily skin (oil-free). Containing 80 percent water, say hello to hydrated skin with the Water Blend Face & Body Foundation. I love the water-gel texture of this foundation as it creates a smooth canvas. Also, it’s long-lasting and waterproof, ideal for both the face and body.
4. CLINIQUE Even Better Glow Light Reflecting Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15, $39.00 CAD
Dermatologist-developed, this foundation is lightweight and perfect for achieving a luminous yet natural finish. Besides sun protection, the Even Better Glow Light Reflecting Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF 15 contains both vitamin C and E to help brighten your skin tone. Furthermore, it’s sweat and humidity-resistant – perfect for summer. With 30 shades to choose from, there’s a shade for everyone.
5. SMASHBOX Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35, $55.00 CAD
BB creams are known for their skin care benefits, creamy texture and light coverage. Smashbox does it right with its Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35. A 5-in-1, this BB cream saves you time by priming, perfecting, hydrating, banishing shine while protecting with SPF 35. Being a multitasker and containing a high SPF, this BB cream is perfect for taking on vacation as well. The best way to apply this product is with your fingertips.
I personally enjoy applying these products with a fluffy foundation brush, but for those looking for a barely-there, natural finish, apply with a damp cosmetic sponge (such as Beautyblender) or your fingertips. I hope one of these products will be your holy grail for many summers to come.
