Apple TV+ recently released the premiere date and the first look of Physical season two. The dark comedy series set in the 80s stars Rose Byrne as the fitness mogul, Sheila Rubin.
Physical Season Two
Physical is set in the sunny 1980s San Diego where it follows the dutiful yet tortured housewife, Sheila. In the first season, we see Sheila struggle with her self-image provided by her excruciating mundane life and love-hate relationship with her husband, Danny (Rory Scovel). The series starts off with her self-deprecating monologues as she binge eats fast food cheeseburgers in a motel room, to her slow rise to success as the town’s new fitness mogul. Sheila’s journey in combining her newfound love for aerobics with the rapid rise of VCR transformed her character from a mummed wife to an influential woman of power.
The woman who first struggles with an eating disorder finally finds a better use of her time through exercising. And Aerobics itself gives her new purpose and empowerment which Sheila lacks in the first place. Her painfully boring life finally turns around when she meets Bunny (Della Saba) and the two create an aerobics video guide. Their aerobics at-home video guide becomes a massive success, and it is only a matter of time before Sheila finds herself in a tight spot between her family and her dreams.
Physical’s season two will pick up after Sheila successfully launches her fitness video career. The second season will involve new obstacles for Sheila. This includes her new competitors who will challenge her fitness empire and her faltering loyalty to her husband as she meets a handsome realtor agent.
Physical Season Two Cast
Rose Byrne, who both excelled in comedy (Bridesmaid) and serious drama (Mrs. America) gives us a nuanced Sheila Rubin. Acting opposite her is Rory Scovel (The House) who manages to upsell a somewhat vapid character like Danny Rubin. The rest of the cast will reprise their roles. Deirdre Friel (Second Act) as Greta; Paul Sparks (House of Cards) as John Breem; Della Saba (Zootopia) as Bunny; Lou Taylor Pucci (American Horror Story) as Tyler; and Geoffrey Arend (Madam Secretary) as Jerry. Joining them for season two is Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) as the charismatic fitness instructor, Vincent “Vinnie” Green.
Physical Season Two Premiere Date
Physical is from the creation of writer and executive producer Annie Weisman (Almost Family). It is from the production of Tomorrow Studios (an ITV Studios partnership). Byrne, aside from starring in the lead role, is also an executive producer of the show along with Alexandra Cunningham, John McNamara and Sera Gamble. Stephanie Laing serves as the director and executive producer along with Marty Adelstein and Becky Clements for Tomorrow Studios.
The second season of Physical will premiere on Friday, June 3rd, 2022. The sophomore season has ten episodes and will premiere on Apple TV+ weekly, every Friday.
