Raven-Symoné gets real about not wanting people using Ozempic for “glamazon purposes”

The That’s So Raven alumni Raven-Symoné shares her thoughts on the current usage of Ozempic as a weight loss hack. Ozempic is used to treat type 2 diabetes and for long-term weight management. Raven-Symoné mentions that in August 2022, FDA had reported an Ozempic shortage due to an increased demand for this type 2 diabetes medication. “I have pre-diabetes and diabetes in my family,” says Raven-Symoné. Thus, she mentions how important this drug is for people who actually need it. “If I’m not careful with my intake with types of foods, I am more susceptible to getting diabetes. So, I think it’s very important we understand certain medications are made for certain people—and to not take that away just for glamazon purposes.”

Raven-Symoné adds, “Do what you gotta do, just make sure you save the medication for the people who actually need it. However, for those who need it, I know people that are on it as well and they need it and it definitely helps to regulate hormones.” This Hollywood trend also raises concern to Dr. Caroline Apovian, co-director of the Center for Weight Management and Wellness at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Apovian explained to People, “You’re taking away from patients with diabetes. We have lifesaving drugs… and the United States public that really needs these drugs can’t get them.”
