People have always payed attention to who Taylor Swift dates. One of her most controversial relationships was with John Mayer from late 2009 to early 2010. At the time of their relationship Taylor Swift was 19 and John Mayer was 31. Not long after their breakup, Taylor Swift then released a song called ‘Dear John’ on her third studio album titled: ‘Speak Now’. You can tell by some of the lyrics that Taylor had come to realize how she had been taken advantage of by Mayer. Swift wrote, “Dear John, I see it all now that you’re gone Don’t you think I was too young to be messed with? The girl in the dress, cried the whole way home. I should’ve known”.

Now, 14 years later, Taylor Swift has healed from the trauma, but the Swifties sure haven’t. With the release of ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’ we saw their dedication to the singer when they started a petition and even created merchandise to ‘cancel’ Jake Gyllenhaal, another suspected subject of Taylor’s songs.

Clearly Taylor doesn’t want a repeat of that, so she issued a request to her fans. With ‘Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)’ dropping early next month, she asked fans not to cyberbully anyone they “think” she wrote a song about when she was 19. Considering one of the most successful songs on the album is ‘Dear John’ it’s not hard to determine who this ‘someone’ is.

She addressed her fans during a recent concert in Minnesota saying, “I see so many beautiful interactions happen and I hear so many stories about friends that were made at these shows and I watch it happen every night. It’s the most unbelievable thing to watch. And so, I was hoping to ask you that as we lead up to this album coming out, I would love for that kindness and that gentleness, to extend on to our internet activities.” Check out the full speech below, posted by @falenkdwb on TikTok.
