Running may be one of the simplest sports, but the right equipment can make every mile more comfortable, focused and memorable.

My current running setup consists of three essentials: the Insta360 GO Ultra Running Bundle, New Balance 1080v15, and goodr Do It for the Victory Dance sunglasses. The GO Ultra records the route from my perspective, the New Balance shoes provide everyday comfort, and the goodr sunglasses keep my vision clear in bright conditions.

Here is how these three products work together.

Insta360 GO Ultra: Recording Every Mile from My Point of View

The first item I prepare is the Insta360 GO Ultra, a compact wearable camera designed to capture the run without requiring me to hold a phone.

Trying to film with a smartphone can affect the natural arm swing and turn a continuous run into a repeated cycle of stopping, recording and starting again. Weighing approximately 53 grams, the GO Ultra is small enough to wear while running and allows me to record the experience hands-free.

It can capture video at up to 4K 60fps, while FlowState Stabilisation helps reduce the shaking created by each footfall. Its 360 Horizon Lock also helps keep the horizon level as I turn corners or move across uneven ground.

For the most authentic first-person footage, I position the camera on the Easy Clip Headband or close to eye level on a running cap. This gives the footage a natural runner’s-eye perspective, capturing the road, scenery and other runners in a way that feels much closer to what I actually saw.

A chest-mounted setup can still produce immersive footage, but its lower position does not feel quite as natural as a head-level view. For scenic routes, races and running vlogs, placing the camera closer to eye level creates the strongest first-person effect.

The dedicated GO Ultra Running Bundle includes:

  • Insta360 GO Ultra camera
  • Easy Clip Headband
  • Backpack Clip
  • Magnetic Easy Clip
  • Magnet Pendant
  • Quick Release Mount
  • Quick Release Safety Cord
  • Screen Protector
  • Lens Guard

The Easy Clip Headband is the most useful accessory for first-person recording, while the Backpack Clip provides an alternative angle. The Quick Release Safety Cord adds extra security when filming during faster or more demanding sessions.

QuickCapture and voice control also make it possible to start recording without repeatedly navigating menus. I can prepare the settings before leaving, attach the camera securely and capture selected parts of the route without taking my attention away from the run.

The GO Ultra is particularly suitable for:

  • First-person race footage
  • Scenic road and trail routes
  • Running vlogs and training diaries
  • Group runs and community events
  • Running while travelling
  • Short-form social content

Recording in higher resolutions will use more battery and storage, so I normally choose the settings before the run and record the sections that matter most. The camera also requires a separate microSD card.

Because some accessories use magnets, runners with a pacemaker should not wear the Magnet Pendant on the chest.

New Balance 1080v15: Everyday Comfort Underfoot

Once the camera is ready, the next priority is comfort. The New Balance 1080v15 is designed to handle the majority of everyday training miles.

Rather than being limited to race day or one particular type of workout, the 1080v15 is a versatile daily running shoe suitable for easy sessions, recovery miles and longer weekend routes. New Balance has equipped the model with an updated cushioning system designed to deliver lasting comfort and improved energy return.

That balance is important. Too little cushioning can make repeated miles on hard pavement feel punishing, while an excessively soft shoe may feel unstable or disconnected from the ground. The 1080v15 provides a protective underfoot experience while retaining enough responsiveness to keep each step moving forward.

The upper is designed to hold the foot securely without making the shoe feel unnecessarily restrictive. This becomes particularly noticeable during longer sessions, when even a small amount of heel movement or pressure around the forefoot can become distracting.

I would choose the New Balance 1080v15 for:

  • Daily road running
  • Easy and recovery sessions
  • Long weekend runs
  • Treadmill training
  • Walking and all-day wear

It may not replace a lightweight racing shoe for runners chasing a personal best, but that is not its primary purpose. The 1080v15 is the dependable pair designed to handle the regular miles that make race-day performance possible.

Fit remains personal, so runners should choose the correct length and width rather than relying only on their usual shoe size. New Balance’s range of width options can be particularly useful for anyone who finds standard running shoes too narrow or restrictive.

goodr Do It for the Victory Dance: Wider Coverage Without the Bounce

The final piece of my running setup is the goodr Do It for the Victory Dance, a pair of BOLT G shield sunglasses featuring a black half-rim frame and reflective orange lenses.

Compared with goodr’s classic lifestyle-inspired frames, this model has a noticeably more performance-focused shape. The single wraparound shield lens provides broader coverage across the eyes, helping reduce exposure to bright sunlight, wind and airborne debris on open roads and trails.

The lens is also vented to encourage airflow. This is particularly useful during faster sessions and warm-weather runs, when heat and sweat can cause traditional sunglasses to fog.

Its running-focused features include:

  • A lightweight BOLT G half-rim frame
  • A wide, vented wraparound shield lens
  • Reflective orange lenses with UV400 protection
  • Temple grips designed to minimise slipping
  • A secure shape designed to reduce bouncing
  • An adjustable nosepiece for a more personalised fit

The adjustable nosepiece is one of the most practical details. Running sunglasses only work well when they remain in the correct position, and the ability to fine-tune the fit helps prevent the frame from gradually sliding down as the intensity increases.

The wide lens also expands the field of view without the visual interruption created by a thick full-frame design. It makes the sunglasses well suited to runs where visibility, coverage and a secure fit are more important than having a subtle everyday frame.

The reflective orange lens gives the sunglasses an energetic race-day appearance. They still carry the playful personality associated with goodr, but the BOLT G silhouette makes them feel like dedicated performance equipment.

I would wear Do It for the Victory Dance for:

  • Fast road-running sessions
  • Long runs in bright conditions
  • Race-day use
  • Trail running
  • Outdoor interval sessions
  • Cycling and cross-training

At $45, they provide the shield-style design and adjustable features of performance sunglasses at a more accessible price than many premium alternatives.

How the Three Products Work Together

Each product addresses a different part of the running experience.

Product Role in the setup Best suited to
Insta360 GO Ultra Running Bundle Wearable first-person camera POV race footage, running vlogs and scenic routes
New Balance 1080v15 Cushioned everyday running shoe Daily mileage, recovery sessions and long runs
goodr Do It for the Victory Dance Vented shield running sunglasses Fast sessions, races and bright outdoor routes

The Insta360 GO Ultra captures the journey without interrupting my natural running rhythm. The New Balance 1080v15 provides comfort and protection underfoot. The goodr Do It for the Victory Dance sunglasses offer wider visual coverage while remaining secure during movement.

Together, they remove three common distractions: carrying a phone while filming, dealing with uncomfortable impact and repeatedly adjusting sunglasses as the intensity increases.

Final Thoughts—and Another Camera on My Wish List

For runners building a practical but distinctive setup, each of these products has a clearly defined role.

Choose the Insta360 GO Ultra Running Bundle if you want to document races and routes from an immersive first-person perspective. Add the New Balance 1080v15 for cushioned everyday mileage, and wear goodr Do It for the Victory Dance when you need broad coverage and a secure fit in bright outdoor conditions.

For a while, everyday life had begun to feel like a blur of routines. I was moving through each day, but not always noticing it—the changing light, unfamiliar streets, small conversations, or the quiet moments that made one day different from another. Running gradually brought that awareness back. Once I started paying attention to the road beneath me, the weather, the people passing by and the city unfolding around each corner, ordinary life began to feel vivid again.

Filming my runs deepened that feeling. The camera was not simply preserving what happened; it encouraged me to look more closely and stay present while it was happening. The GO Ultra feels perfect for this stage of the journey because it is small enough to wear and records the run from my own point of view. But now that I have rediscovered the pleasure of noticing and documenting everyday life, I want to take that habit beyond running.

That is why Insta360’s new X6 has caught my attention. Its 360-degree capture allows me to experience the moment first and decide how to frame it afterwards—ideal for travel, days out, conversations and all the spontaneous details I might otherwise miss. With 8K 360 video and features that simplify framing and editing, it feels less like a camera for one activity and more like a tool for becoming attentive to life again. The GO Ultra helps me relive each run; the X6 feels like the camera I would choose to keep exploring, noticing and recording the wider life that running has taught me to see.
