Jelly Roll Need a Favor Watermelon Moonshine CMT Music Award Winners

39-year-old country singer and rapper Jelly Roll won all three categories he was nominated in, the most of anyone. Jelly Roll took home Video of the Year and Male Video of the Year for his song’s music video “Need a Favor.” The song also won Jelly Roll an award for CMT Performance of the Year for his performance at last year’s CMT awards.

“I’m having the time of my life tonight” the three-time CMT award winner exclaimed during his acceptance speech for Male Video of the Year.

Jelly Roll said it was important for him to “represent those who are looking for second chances,”

“I once heard a man say that you don’t change until the pain to remain the same is greater than the pain it takes to change,” he ended his speech.

Lainey Wilson, 31, won Female Video of the Year for Watermelon Moonshine” and performed several songs including “Country’s Cool Again” and a cover of the late Toby Keith’s “How Do You Like Me Now?!”

Several first-time nominees included Hozier, Ashley Cooke, and Warren Zeiders. Cooke took home Breakthrough Female Video of the Year for her music video of “Your Place.”

The night also saw history made as country superstar Trisha Yearwood was awarded the June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award. The award recognizes those who’ve given back to their communities.

Upon accepting the award, Yearwood said that while she has “never gotten an award like this” she felt honored to be the inaugural recipient. Yearwood hoped that she could use the award to “be as big a part of my community and as good of a friend to fellow artists as she was” referring to June Carter Cash, a country singer-songwriter in her own right and wife to Johnny Cash.

“I really look at this as a challenge and a calling just to be better,”

Yearwood also performed “Put It In A Song” during the show.

The Country Music Television (CMT) Awards are an annual awards show that celebrates the year’s top country videos.

The awards took place at the Moody Center in Austin, Texas, where country singer Kelsea Ballerini hosted the awards show. Ballerini received 3 nominations—the same amount as Jelly Roll—for CMT Performance of the Year, Female Video of the Year, and Video of the Year.
