The colourful Adidas X Gucci partnership made its debut on the Exquisite Gucci runway. Alessandro Michele is the creative director and the collection is available today.
The collaboration highlights Alessandro Michele’s prismatic aesthetic. This is done by blending the codes of the House with those of the historic sportswear brand.
Mixing high fashion with streetwear is a trend that we’ve been seeing more often. Michele masterfully melds these two very different brands. He says that his inspiration for the campaign was an archival 1979 Adidas catalogue.
The campaign includes, “a template showcasing a variety of moving imagery, against brightly coloured backdrops.” Models are seen stretching, running, and dancing in place to a soundtrack of phrases such as, ‘when your thoughts become reality, you understand what magic is.’”
The collection includes both women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, in addition to accessories such as, bags, shoes, jewelry, and even lifestyle pieces. The double ‘G’ monogram blends well with the bright Adidas prints. Gucci’s thematic colours are red and green which complements Adidas famous three stripes.
All of the ready-to-wear pieces depict sportswear from the past with a modern appeal.
