3 years ago, a whole new generation of Canadians got to experience the thrilling ride of watching one of our teams reach the top level of competition and take it all home. None of which would have been possible without the contributions of Toronto Raptors alumni Kyle Lowry.
For those who don’t recall, or just because the story never gets old, the Raptors took home the NBA title in 6 games against defending champs, the Golden State Warriors back in 2019. The bonafide underdog story was not only exciting for basketball fans, but the nation as a whole as we watched our sole NBA team win it all for the first time in franchise history. Despite the impression it left on us here in the north, the wheels of the association didn’t stop turning, and the Raptors lineup began a distinct change, which eventually included losing the veteran point guard Kyle Lowry.
Much to the 6ix’s chagrin, Lowry was recruited by the Miami Heat during last year’s off-season in exchange for 2 noteworthy players. Since then, Lowry has yet to touch the Canadian hardwood in his new Miami uniform, and is scheduled to return to the Scotiabank Arena on January 29th. To honor the blood, sweat, and tears that Lowry gave for the Raptors organization, Adidas is releasing an exclusive collection of apparel which commends the impressive legacy Lowry left during his 9-season run with the organization. Titled the Forever Home Pack, the collection contains both a t-shirt and a hoodie that exhibit the respect the organization has for the veteran player, pointing out that Toronto will always welcome Lowry with open arms. The back of the garments display Lowry’s player stats, including his all-time Raptors records such as his 4,277 assists, 873 steals, 1,518 three pointers and 16 triple-doubles. The Forever Home Pack contains even more exciting opportunities for participants of the Adidas membership program; Adidas Creators Club. Beginning January 21st, members can enter for a chance to claim additional prizes in the ultimate Kyle Lowry viewing experience that includes snacks and swag. The creme de la creme of the exclusive goods which will have Raptors fans frothing at the mouth, is the chance to win a pair of sneakers signed by Lowry himself.
Toronto is still in the early stages of piecing together an NBA legacy considering the team has been around less than 30 years. However, in that short time the organization has attracted a credible reputation by honoring the players who have lent their skill for Canadian basketball. Older generations can associate this trait with Vince Carter, who helped the raptors win their first even playoff series in the 2001 season. Despite igniting some tensions in Toronto when he left the team, Carter was given his flowers in the form of a video tribute when he returned to what was then the Air Canada Center. Currently the Raptors are in the process of molding some fresh faces into possibly the next veteran players, but this collection from Adidas helps to remind us of everything Lowry did for the team. The Forever Home Pack will be available at Adidas locations around Toronto, and online at Adidas Canada starting on January 21st while supplies last.
