The first footage from the long-awaited second season is here, bringing Ahsoka Tano, Anakin Skywalker, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and one very important question back into the spotlight: “Are you a Jedi… or not?”
August 21, 2026: The Force is calling again.
After months of waiting, Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 finally has its first teaser trailer and an official premiere date. Revealed during D23 2026, the new season will arrive on Disney+ on January 20, 2027, continuing the story after Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren were left stranded in another galaxy while Grand Admiral Thrawn successfully returned to the known Star Wars galaxy.
And this teaser isn’t wasting time pretending everything is fine.
The galaxy is heading toward war.
Thrawn is back.
Ahsoka’s journey with the Force is becoming even more complicated.
And Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker is once again part of the story.
The official teaser runs just over a minute, but for fans who have followed Ahsoka from Star Wars: The Clone Wars through Star Wars Rebels and finally into live action, there is a lot to process. Creator Dave Filoni joined Rosario Dawson, Christensen and Eman Esfandi at D23 to preview the next chapter, with the official Star Wars announcement framing the season around perhaps the biggest question in Ahsoka’s life: Is she truly a Jedi, or not?
That question alone tells us Season 2 is going deeper than simply delivering another lightsaber battle.
Although, let’s be honest. The lightsaber battles look pretty incredible too.
Ahsoka and Anakin Are Back—and Their Story Is Far From Finished
One of the biggest moments from Season 1 came when Ahsoka reunited with Anakin Skywalker.
For longtime Clone Wars fans, seeing Rosario Dawson’s live-action Ahsoka standing opposite Hayden Christensen’s Anakin carried years of Star Wars history with it. Their relationship has always been one of the franchise’s most complicated. He was her master. She was his Padawan. Then Anakin became Darth Vader, leaving Ahsoka to live with the consequences of losing someone she once trusted completely.
Season 1 took that history somewhere unexpected.
The World Between Worlds allowed Ahsoka to confront her past and revisit parts of her younger life during the Clone Wars. Season 2 appears ready to continue exploring that connection rather than treating Anakin’s return as a one-time nostalgia moment.
The teaser includes Christensen again as Anakin and also brings back Ariana Greenblatt as the younger version of Ahsoka, pointing toward more exploration of her past and her relationship with the man who trained her. Official and recent coverage has also confirmed that Anakin will have a significant presence in the new season.
For Star Wars fans, that is where the teaser gets especially exciting.
Ahsoka’s entire identity has been shaped by what happened to Anakin. She walked away from the Jedi Order before he fell. She survived Order 66. Years later, she learned Darth Vader was the man she once called Master.
Now, with Anakin appearing as a Force ghost, she has access to something she never had before: the chance to keep learning from him without the darkness of Darth Vader standing between them.
But the teaser’s central question—“Are you a Jedi… or not?”—suggests Ahsoka still hasn’t fully settled the matter herself.
That has been part of her character for years. She left the Jedi Order, but she never stopped fighting for what she believed was right. She trained Sabine Wren, even though their master-and-apprentice relationship has been anything but traditional.
Ahsoka Tano has never fit comfortably into someone else’s definition of what she should be.
Season 2 looks ready to make that personal conflict central to the story.

Thrawn Is Back, and the New Republic Has a Serious Problem
Of course, there is a much larger threat waiting outside Ahsoka’s personal journey.
Grand Admiral Thrawn is back.
Lars Mikkelsen’s villain escaped Peridea at the end of Season 1 and returned to the main Star Wars galaxy, while Ahsoka and Sabine remained trapped behind. The teaser makes it clear that his return is not going to stay quiet for long.
Recent coverage of the footage describes Thrawn moving against the New Republic and declaring war as he works toward restoring Imperial power. The threat is finally becoming real for a galaxy that has spent years trying to rebuild after the fall of the Empire.
That is what makes Season 2 feel bigger.
The first season spent a lot of time getting its major players into position. Ezra Bridger finally made it home. Thrawn returned with his forces. Ahsoka and Sabine were left in a completely different galaxy. Baylan Skoll began pursuing a mysterious power connected to Peridea.
Now those storylines have to move.
Thrawn’s return could also make the series feel more connected than ever to the larger New Republic era of Star Wars storytelling. His character has been one of the franchise’s most dangerous strategists since Heir to the Empire, and Rebels established just how difficult he is to defeat.
He doesn’t need the Force.
That has always been the scary part.
He wins by understanding his enemies.
The teaser makes one thing very clear: the galaxy may finally have to understand just how serious the Thrawn problem has become.

Baylan Skoll’s Story Continues With Rory McCann
There is another emotional part of Season 2 that fans have been waiting to see addressed.
Following the death of actor Ray Stevenson in May 2023, the future of Baylan Skoll became uncertain. Stevenson died before the premiere of Ahsoka Season 1, and his performance as the mysterious former Jedi became one of the show’s most memorable elements.
Season 2 will continue Baylan’s story with Rory McCann taking over the role.
The teaser gives fans their first look at McCann as Baylan, carrying forward the storyline that ended with the character standing near the enormous statues connected to the Mortis gods and looking toward a mysterious source of power on Peridea.
It’s a difficult transition because Baylan was never a straightforward villain.
His goals remained mysterious.
He wasn’t chasing power in the same way as Thrawn. He seemed to believe there was something far older and far more significant waiting for him. Season 1 deliberately left fans with questions about what he had discovered and why Peridea mattered so much.
Season 2 finally has the chance to answer some of them.
And for a franchise built on ancient Force mythology, witches, lost worlds, and stories stretching thousands of years into the past, Baylan’s search could become one of the most fascinating pieces of the new season.
The teaser also points toward a darker and more mystical side of the Star Wars universe, with Peridea’s strange history and the larger Force mythology still hanging over Ahsoka’s journey.

January 2027 Suddenly Feels a Long Way Away
The wait is now officially on.
Star Wars: Ahsoka Season 2 premieres January 20, 2027, exclusively on Disney+.
For fans, the teaser does exactly what a good Star Wars teaser should do.
It gives us enough.
Then it leaves us wanting much more.
There are battles waiting. Thrawn’s plans are beginning to take shape. Ezra is back home, but Ahsoka and Sabine aren’t. Baylan’s mysterious mission continues. Anakin is still watching over his former Padawan.
And right in the middle of all of it is Ahsoka Tano, a character who started as an animated teenage Padawan and has somehow become one of the most important figures in modern Star Wars.
Her story has always been about survival.
This time, it may be about deciding exactly who she wants to become.
January 20 cannot get here fast enough.
