The full story behind Spears sisters’ arguments over Instagram, in a timeline. Keep reading to find out everything that went on, and to understand what led Britney to unfollow her sister on social media.

Pop singer Britney Spears and her sister Jamie Lynn Spears seem to have always maintained a pretty turbulent relationship with constant ups and downs, which haven’t exactly been kept under wraps. Their disagreements became even more public and gained the spotlight since last year’s events concerning the star’s conservatorship. In case you haven’t been following up with this story, here is everything you need to know about the Spears sisters’ family drama.

Ever since being put under a conservatorship in 2008, Britney had never spoken in court until June 2021, an occasion in which the artist broke her silence during a hearing reviewing the legal measure imposed on her. Although not naming her sister directly, Britney claimed she should be able to deal with her finances and choose her own Lawyer, and stated that she “would honestly like to sue [her] family” and “share [her] story with the world, and what they did to [her]”.

Days later, considering Jamie hadn’t made any posts on her social media accounts supporting the #FreeBritney movement, her followers started to pressure and question the actress’ positioning regarding her sister’s controversial situation. Addressing the issue, Jamie used her Instagram Stories to say that, despite not using the hashtag the way the public expected her to, “I support my sister. I love my sister”. Moreover, a report suggesting Jamie to be the only one in the Spears family who isn’t on her sister’s payroll was released, to which she responded, on July 6th, “Facts… now leave my broke-ass alone”.

Following up, Britney was finally granted the right to choose her own representative in July last year. Then, on July 16th, the pop star made an Instagram post opening up and saying that “there’s nothing worse than when the people closest to you who never showed up for you post things in regard to your situation whatever it may be and speak righteously for support”. She added, “how dare the people you love the most say anything at all…”.

The day after, the singer posted a new quote to her Instagram account, calling out her after and sister. She stated, “I don’t like that my sister showed up at an awards show and performed MY SONGS to remixes!!!!! My so-called support system hurt me deeply”. Jamie returned to Instagram on July 18th with a series of selfies captioned “May the peace of the Lord be with you, and your spirit”, but later changed the caption to emojis of a peace sign and a heart.

Shortly after, Britney posted a dance video on Instagram and wrote “May the Lord wrap your mean ass up in joy today”. After all that, Jamie then started avoiding her sister’s conservatorship subject, alleging she was receiving death threats. Later in October 2021, Jamie announced she will be releasing a book about her life entitled “Things I Should Have Said”. In the book, due to come out this month, the actress promises to talk about her sister’s troubles and conservatorship. To that news, Britney shared a new Instagram post affirming she is thinking about releasing a book and asking her fans for name suggestions.

Britney’s conservatorship dilemma was finally terminated in November 2021. Kicking off the new year, the pop star purged a lot of people she used to follow on Instagram, lowering that number to about 46 people. Regardless of being unfollowed by her sister, Jamie continues to follow Briney. That basically sums up the whole family controversy between Spears sisters.
