Janet Von Schmeling, Drake Bell’s wife, filed for divorce from her husband, citing irreconcilable differences, a week after Dayton Beach Police reported that the Drake and Josh actor was “missing and endangered.”

A few hours after the April 13 notice was published, Bell, 36, was later discovered to be safe by police. His brief disappearance’s circumstances have not been made public. Soon after Bell was discovered safe, he tweeted, “You leave your phone in the car and don’t answer for the night, and this?”

In an appeal to the Los Angeles County Superior Court on Thursday, Von Schmeling, 28, requested a divorce from Bell. Von Schmeling is reportedly asking for spousal support as well as legal and physical custody of the kid she shares with Bell.

Bell announced his marriage on Twitter in June 2021, stating that he and his wife had wed “almost three years” earlier. The couple has a history of keeping their relationship private. Additionally, he stated that they were “blessed to be the parents of a wonderful son.”

According to the divorce petition filed by Von Schmeling, their union lasted for three years and six months. A source told at the beginning of January that Bell and Von Schmeling had split “a few months ago.”

The insider added that Janet has devoted herself to raising their son. Drake and Janet are committed to maintaining a peaceful co-parenting relationship and giving their son the best life possible.”

The Daily Mail published pictures and a video of Bell that appeared to show him inhaling balloons in his car while parked outside a vape shop in California. A few weeks later, Bell and his ex-wife announced their separation. In a few images, Bell’s son could be seen in the backseat of the automobile.

In response to the publication of the photographs, Bell sought “outpatient help for substance abuse,” the insider told PEOPLE.
