Disney World’s Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel is closing just one year after opening- what happened?

Why is Disney World closing its Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser Hotel? After just one year of operation, one of the latest attractions at Disney World is closing its doors to the public. HOLR is breaking down why.

Galactic Starcruiser Hotel

The ultimate Star Wars experience opened in the spring of 2022. Advertised as a combination of both a hotel and experiential stay, guests would enjoy “Voyages” which included two nights and three days of accommodations. However, as mentioned here, they would also gain access to “food, programming, and entertainment, as well as special access to the Galaxy’s Edge area of the Hollywood Studios theme park.” The attraction is conveniently located near Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.

Galactic Starcruiser Price

This is definitely a costly attraction. Guests would pay approximately $1,200 per person as noted here. Family packages would often range between $4,800 to $6,000 for the immersive two-night, 3-day experience. However, pricing would also depend on the number of people taking part in the experience.

Galactic Starcruiser Shutting Down

In a shocking announcement from the brand, Star Wars: Glactic Starcruiser would be closing its doors later this year. According to this article, a Disney rep stated that this was a “business decision.” The hotel’s final “voyage” will take place in September.

Galactic Starcruiser Reddit

Here’s what people on Reddit have to say about the latest news in this trending thread about the attraction’s closure:

“Maybe making it too expensive was a bad idea…” stated one user.

I mean it was expensive af but it seemed like it was also probably a huge expense to run. Hopefully they revamp it, seems like a waste to just close,” echoed another.

“Too expensive and not enough experiences,” said another.

“The price point was certainly problematic, but a big issue to me and mine was that as introverts the idea of having “characters” approaching us, performing with us, giving us missions, and forcing us to perform makes me want to curl up under a table in the fetal position. The second-hand embarrassment would have been overwhelming. I’d LOVE to stay in the rooms, eat the food, shop in the shops, and ride the rides. Im willing to save up to do it. But I want to be left alone while im doing it,” said another user.
