Instagram Threads

Yesterday, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp’s parent company, Meta, launched Threads, an Instagram app. In just over 24 hours Instagram Threads has become number one on The App Store’s chart. Many people are wondering: could Instagram Threads be what finally kills Twitter? Many users have been leaving Twitter since Elon Musk acquired it, but now that they have a new place to go, will this convince more to jump ship? Some users are more than happy to announce their departure. Check out this tweet from @1_ofakindnocap!

What Is Threads?

So, long story short, Instagram Threads is basically Twitter but with factchecking and without all the new restrictions from Elon Musk. Another major difference is that Instagram Threads is not an independent social media app, but a companion app to Instagram. This means you can only join Threads if you have an Instagram account, but you can not delete your Threads profile without also deleting your Instagram as stated in the privacy policy.

Twitter

Twitter is not going down without a fight! It was recently revealed by Semafor that Twitter is threatening to sue Meta over Instagram Threads. A lawyer from Twitter sent a letter to Meta’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying they were engaging in “systematic, willful, and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter’s trade secrets and other intellectual property.” Check out the full letter below!
