The Cannes Film Festival is the world’s biggest red carpet. For 75 years, the event has lined up premiers and parties that have enriched the film industry, while serving style devotees with an endless array of standout fashion.
Cannes’ dress code is famously strict and passé. This has ensured the festival’s position as the premier showcase for haute couture and decadent jewels.
In 2020 there were no premieres or parties due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its travel bans. But this year the event came roaring back, and the fashion did not disappoint.
The former Victoria’s Secret Angel, hit the red carpet with two stunning gowns by Etro. She wore a cream-coloured and halter neck dress. She also stunned in a beaded jumpsuit with fringe sleeves. In both outfits, she looked nothing but stunning and emphasized her best features.
Bella Hadid was definitely an eye-catcher with the two gowns she wore. She first debuted on the red carpet with a custom dress made by Jean Paul Gaultier. The dress was inspired by one of the looks from the Gaultier Paris Haute Couture Spring-Summer 2000. Bella loved the original dress so much that she reached out to the atelier to ask for a replica of the dress made just for her appearance on the Cannes red carpet. She then wore a masterpiece by Schiaparelli. It was a long dress with a black wool crepe with a deep neckline adorned with a statement gold brass jewelry piece in the shape of lungs, whose bronchioles are studded with rhinestones.
Jodie Turner-Smith brought life to the red carpet with a gown by Gucci. Jodie donned a sweeping yellow and white feathered gown which trailed behind her on the red carpet. The top of the dress featured an off-shoulder corset in cream and black with studs at the bust. The Anne Boleyn star wore her raven locks piled up atop her head, providing plenty of opportunities to show off her gold accessories. She wore drop-earrings, a statement necklace, and a matching bangle.
As one of the judges, Maggie Gyllenhal made multiple appearances on the red carpet – each time looking beautiful as always. From Versace to Gucci, to Chanel, Maggie’s looks did not disappoint. Each time she brought something that made her stand out and look her best.
There were so many serves in this event. After the Covid-19 pandemic, outstanding fashion was expected, although Cannes has definitely been a fashion surprise and delight. Social media star, Fatima Almomen, wore a custom-made bright pink ball gown by Rami Kadi. Also present was supermodel, Taylor Hill, who looked classy, elegant and mysterious in a black dress by Etro. And, looking classy and timeless, Carla Bruni wore a strapless black dress by Saint Laurent that brought out her beauty.
Camila Coehlo, a Brazilian internet celebrity, wore a dress by designer, Nicolas Jebran. The dress was white with beautiful beading and feather-like rouging at the bottom – she looked heavenly. Another supermodel that brought outstanding fashion to the red carpet was Coco Rocha. She wore a gown by Dior, which consisted of a burgundy gown that faded into lighter and darker tones.
As iconic as ever, Tilda Swinton wore interesting and fashionable pieces for the event. On one occasion she wore a bright look with a mix of colours and structures by Haider Ackermann. And then she wore a more toned-down look in a two-piece by Schiaparelli. Finally, Sharon Stone wore an elegant and timeless piece by Dolce & Gabbana – her dress made her look like the most elegant and classy goddess out there.
