Richard Gadd delivered a heartfelt message to the crowd during his acceptance speech.

“I never ever thought I’d get my life together. I never ever thought I’d be able to rectify myself with what had happened to me and get myself back on my feet again,” Gadd said.

“Here I am, just over a decade later, picking up one of the biggest writing awards in television? Now, I don’t mean that to sound arrogant, I mean it as encouragement for anyone who’s going through a difficult time right now to persevere,” Gadd continued.Netflix Baby Reindeer Massive Emmy Triumph

“I don’t know much about this life, I don’t know why we are here, none of that. But I do know that nothing lasts forever, no matter how bad it gets, it always gets better,” Gadd said.

“If you’re struggling, keep going. And I promise you things will be okay. Thank you so much for this award,” Gadd continued.

Is Baby Reindeer a True Story?

“Baby Reindeer” follows Gadd’s retelling of a time in his life where he was vehemently stalked by a woman named Martha, and sexually abused by an established male television writer.

The show’s controversy stems from its claim to being a “true story,” in which a woman who believes she inspired Martha’s character is actually suing Netflix for defamation.
