As per this related article, Ryan Gosling released a statement on January 23rd expressing his disappointment that fellow Barbie co-star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig weren’t nominated for their respective categories. 

The Canadian actor, who is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Ken in the highly-acclaimed 2023 film Barbie, said in a statement noted here, “To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.” Gosling added that “there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie.”

America Ferrera expressed similar dissatisfaction to Variety, adding “Greta has done just about everything that a director could do to deserve it,” after she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress.

The 2023 movie received a Best Picture nomination alongside Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy.

Oppenheimer and Barbie were the center of the worldwide phenomenon Barbenheimer where, instead of choosing between the films, many moviegoers opted to see both films. Billie Eilish received a nomination for Best Original Song for “What Was I Made For?” Gerwig was nominated alongside her husband and co-writer Noah Baumbach for Best Adapted Screenplay.
