The singer recently opened up about her post-separation journey. How was the last year for Shakira?

It has been almost one year since Shakira and Gerard Piqué split up: the separation led to a “rough” period in the singer’s life! In a recent interview on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Shakira opened up about her emotional journey following the split, as Page Six mentions here. “I’ve had a very rough year after my separation, and writing this song [‘Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53’] has been so important to me,” she confessed. “It’s been a healthy way to channel my emotions.” she added.

The singer confessed that she felt many women related to her situation. “I really felt that I don’t even have fans out there,” Shakira, 46, said. ”I have a sisterhood of women who have been through the same things that I have been through, who think the way I think, who feel the way I feel, who had to put up with so much crap the way I had to.” the Hips Don’t Lie singer continued.

“And I did write the song for me but also I feel that it was meant for so many women out there that needed a forum and a voice to represent them in so many ways.” she added during the interview.

In 2022 the singer and her ex-partner officially announced their separation. “We regret to confirm that we are separating,” their public statement said. ”For the well-being of our children, who are our highest priority, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you for your understanding.” it continued.

The separation happened shortly after the singer found out Piqué had cheated on her. HOLR breaks down the details here.
