Taylor Lautner Confesses Competition While Filming Twilight
“Twilight” was a massive success both commercially and culturally. The book series has sold over 120 million copies worldwide and has been translated into 38 different languages. The film adaptations, directed by Catherine Hardwicke and later by other directors, also performed well at the box office and have become some of the highest-grossing romantic fantasy films of all time. In the films, the characters are played by well-known actors like Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan), Robert Patteson (Edward Cullen) and Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black).
Recently, Taylor Lautner was a guest on a podcast called, ‘The Toast’ with hosts, Jackie and Claudia Oshry. In the interview, Lautner was asked about his relationship with Robert Patterson due to the rivalry between ‘Team Jacob’ and ‘Team Edward’.
“Team Jacob” and “Team Edward” refer to two opposing fan groups from the “Twilight” book and film series. “Team Jacob” supports the character of Jacob Black, a werewolf and Bella Swan’s best friend, who competes with Edward for Bella’s affection. “Team Edward” supports the character of Edward Cullen, a vampire who is deeply in love with Bella and is willing to make sacrifices to protect her. Both teams have passionate followers who argue over which character is better for Bella, creating a “love triangle” dynamic in the series.
Taylor Talks About Affects Of Team Jacob/Team Edward
Podcast hosts asked if the Team Jacob and Team Edward debate affected him during his time filming the movie.
“I feel like I’d be lying if I said no,” Lautner says, “I was so young and yeah, I do feel like it was very strange travelling the world and being in different cities and having thousands of screaming fans either taking your side or the other guy’s side,” He expresses.
“Yeah, it was a little bizarre, the competitiveness,” he added. “There wasn’t a competitiveness between me and Rob, but having that constant reminder, it definitely had an impact.” (Insider)
