The Crowded Room Episode 8

Anyone playing a LGBT+ character nowadays is controversial enough, but featuring them in a steamy sex scene? Now that’s risky. Tom Holland is the latest actor to come under fire for this. The latest episode of Holland’s new show ‘The Crowded Room’ features his character having sex with another man, and it went viral instantly.

Some people are upset seeing their friendly neighborhood Spider-Man do a scene like this, but others are praising him for taking this risk. This has sparked a heated debate online. Some of Tom Holland’s die-hard Spider-man fans are turning their back on the actor, making posts declaring “not my Spider-man”, but this has other fans coming to his defense.

Supportive fans are pointing out that Tobey McGuire and Andrew Garfield, who previously played Spider-Man, have also played LGBT+ characters.

In fact, Andrew Garfield once spoke out about his desire to explore Spider-Man’s sexuality and the backlash he received for it, saying: “There was an interview I gave where I said ‘Why can’t Peter explore his bisexuality in his next film? Why can’t [his girlfriend] MJ be a guy?’ I was then put under a lot of pressure to retract that and apologize for saying something that is a legitimate thing to think and feel. So I said, “OK, so you want me to make sure that we get the bigots and the homophobes to buy their tickets?'”

Tell us what you think! Do you believe the backlash is justified?
