It’s already late January, and yet again another decade has come and gone, but there are some iconic fashion moments that have been crowned as unforgettable. From Lady Gaga making controversial red carpet fashion choices to Rihanna’s epic Met Gala moment, this was a decade where fashion definitely made a statement.
1. Lady Gaga’s Meat Dress- VMA’s 2010
To kick off the decade, Lady Gaga created tension with PETA and her little monster fans when she wore her sculpted meat dress to the 2010 Video Music Awards. The dress was intended to send a message to the US government regarding the “don’t ask, don’t tell” military policy in order to stand up for gay soldiers and their rights. She stated, “If we don’t stand up for what we believe in…we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our bones.”
2. Alexander McQueen’s Death – 2010
The genius of British fashion designer Alexander McQueen ended tragically after a suicide that shook the fashion industry. Know for his dark yet feminine style, his fashion shows never failed to tell a story and transport the audience into another world. His nearly completed final collection, inspired by art of the Dark Ages, was released on the runway several weeks after his death. Sarah Burton took over the brand and the McQueen name lives on with documentaries recently being released on Alexander’s life and work.
3. Angelina Jolie at The Oscars, 2012
Angelina’s powerful bare leg stance has stood the test of time as “the pose” for any red carpet event. The black Atelier Versace gown with a sexy side slit was a fashion moment where Jolie literally stole the show for the night. After that moment, formal dresses with side slits were everywhere and continue to be a trend to this day.

4. The Royal Weddings
Not only was there one royal wedding over this past decade, but two! The whole world was watching when Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle walked down the aisle in their wedding gowns. Kate’s dress is still seen as one of the most exquisite wedding gowns ever worn. Meanwhile, Meghan has become a modern fashion icon for young women. These royal fashion moments were worthy of this list.
5. Rihanna’s Met Gala Moment, 2015
Who knew Rihanna would become one of the world’s most influential fashion icons? She has started her own beauty brand, fashion label, lingerie line, and has been recognized as a show-stopper at every Met Gala she attends. It all started when she arrived at the 2015 “China: Through the Looking Glass” themed gala with a yellow over-the-top Guo Pei gown.The epic train measured to be 16 feet long as she dazzled the carpet.
