TikTok Users Flee to Rednote Facing U.S. Ban

January 14, 2025 – Facing the U.S. TikTok ban, Users flee en masse to the Chinese app Rednote and are welcomed with open arms by the original users.

Rednote App

As the fate of TikTok remains uncertain in the U.S., many users flee to an alternative social media app: Xiaohongshu. Translating to “Little Red Book,” this app is often called Rednote by English users. The app saw a surge in downloads pending TikTok’s pending ban in the U.S. and skyrocketed to the top of the App Store last Tuesday, according to CNN.

This recent trend of American TikTok users jumping ship to another app was also apparent in the sudden popularity of the social media app Lemon8.

Protest Against U.S. TikTok Ban

The surge of American users on Rednote shows how many people are protesting against the U.S. TikTok ban, reports the Financial Times.

According to CNN, many original Rednote users are welcoming the Americans with open arms. They are eager to share the platform, engage with each other, and especially have fun in these uncertain times.
