Cillian Murphy returns for ‘Peaky Blinders’ movie after Oscar win, creator Steven Knight praises his talent and character.

The creator of Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight, confirmed that Cillian Murphy, who recently won his first Oscar for his role in “Oppenheimer,” will indeed return for the Peaky Blinders movie. Knight expressed his admiration for Murphy’s talent and character, describing him as “brilliant” and praising his Best Actor win as “so deserved.”

In an interview with a publication, Knight announced Murphy’s return, stating, “He definitely is returning for it.” The movie is set to be filmed in September in Digbeth, England, continuing the story of Thomas Shelby, portrayed by Murphy, who leads the Peaky Blinders gang. Knight emphasized Murphy’s leadership on set, highlighting his levelheadedness and straightforward approach.

Peaky Blinders, set in Birmingham, England, revolves around the Shelby family’s criminal empire during the post-World War I era, focusing on illegal activities like bootlegging and betting. The series, which aired from 2013 to 2022, featured a stellar cast including Helen McCrory, Tom Hardy, and Anya Taylor-Joy.

Knight had previously mentioned the movie’s development in 2021, noting that it would provide a fitting conclusion to the series. He reiterated this sentiment in a 2023 update, indicating that filming would commence the following year.

Murphy’s Oscar win for “Oppenheimer,” directed by Christopher Nolan, marked a significant milestone in his career. In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to Nolan, the Academy, and his family, including his wife Yvonne McGuinness and their children.
