Ronaldo could leave Manchester United next transfer window as Erik Ten Haag and club executives wish to maintain morale at Old Trafford.
What seemed like a fateful homecoming for Ronaldo at Manchester United in 2021 seems to be coming to a swift end after two years of frustration and poor team play. The acquisition of a new manager in Ten Haag spelled the end of Ronaldo’s tenure with the Red Devils as he is struggling to get paying time this season.
According to Sky Sports Journalist Florian Plettenberg, Ronaldo is slated to leave United as soon as the start of the next transfer window, as well, United is looking to acquire a promising young striker to become Ronaldo’s successor.
As well, Plettenberg suggested that Sporting Lisbon could be looking to sign the 37-year-old striker, which would mean another potential homecoming for the Portuguese Superstar. Both Ronaldo’s mother and Jorge Mendes wish for Ronaldo to return to Portugal at the twilight of his career. As well, Sporting Portugal’s management has not been shy about their interest in Ronaldo, always making it publicly known that they would love to have him return
Ronaldo’s transfer comes under circumstances that led United management to believe that his presence at the club would lower morale. This comes after Ronaldo made it clear that he wished to depart after United failed to qualify for the Champions League this year. As well, Ronaldo stormed off the field after a 2-0 win against Tottenham in September, making it clear that his presence in the locker room is a hindrance.
Ten Haag has been forced to answer a plethora of questions from the media about Ronaldo and his possible transfer, taking away media attention from the quality of soccer that United has been able to achieve under Ten Haag.
Ronaldo has also been linked to a variety of clubs including the latest historic club in the race: Napoli. This comes after United’s plans to sign Napoli’s star striker Victor Osimhen was widely publicized. A possible swap deal including the two attackers could bring an end to Ronaldo’s tenure at United.
Ronaldo seems to have successfully forced his way out of his club, yet his saga with United has not yet come to a close. The following months will determine where Ronaldo will land after his tumultuous tenure with the Red Devils. As well, in the coming months Ronaldo’s replacement will become apparent, hopefully spelling in a new era of greatness for United.
