Hunter Biden Pleads Guilty

Hunter Biden, son of the current United States President Joe Biden, has accepted a deal from The Department of Justice to plead guilty to two counts of a misdemeanor charge for failing to pay his taxes for the years 2017 and 2018. According to CNN, Biden owed “at least $100,000 in federal taxes for 2017, and at least $100,000 in 2018”.

As part of the deal, The Department of Justice has agreed to recommend a probation sentence for both counts but a Judge will have the final say in sentencing. Additionally, Hunter Biden has agreed to enter a pretrial diversion agreement for his one felony charge of possessing a firearm while using illegal drugs. A pretrial diversion agreement “diverts certain offenders from traditional criminal justice processing to a program of supervision and services administered by the United States Probation Service.”

Hunter Biden’s lawyer, Christopher Clark, has issued a statement saying that this investigation “will ‘resolve’ the Justice Department’s long-running criminal probe into the president’s son.” He elaborated, “Hunter will take responsibility for two instances of misdemeanor failure to file tax payments when due pursuant to a plea agreement,” Clark said. “A firearm charge, which will be subject to a pretrial diversion agreement and will not be the subject of the plea agreement, will also be filed by the Government. I know Hunter believes it is important to take responsibility for these mistakes he made during a period of turmoil and addiction in his life. He looks forward to continuing his recovery and moving forward.”

The White House directly emailed a brief statement reading, “The President and First Lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life. We will have no further comment”
