September 14th, 2024 – Netflix is being sued and accused of copying Squid Games off another project.
Squid Games Season 2
After being accused of copying off another project to make Squid Games, Netflix is being sued. Soham Shah is suing Netflix, claiming his 2009 Hindi-language Indian film “Luck” served as a blueprint for the hit 2021 streaming series “Squid Game.”.
According to the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, the “Squid Game” franchise took the whole storyline from Shah’s movie. “Luck” is a story about a group of desperate, indebted people enticed to participate in a series of competitive games to win large sums of money. Shah says in “Luck,” after characters start competing, they realize that losing any challenges means death and that the death of a fellow participant also increases the money available to the remaining contestants. In the documents, Shah also says his “Luck” story features wealthy onlookers gambling on the players and reveling in the high-stakes competition. While on the other hand, the participants struggle to stay alive and grapple with their morality under extreme conditions. This plot is exactly the same as Squid Games was in the first season.
Netflix Networth
Shah claims he wrote his story in or around 2006 and says the movie version was released worldwide in July 2009 in theaters in India, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the UAE. “Squid Game” writer Hwang Dong-hyuk, who is also being sued, claimed to have written his story in 2009 when “Luck” was released in theaters. Shah claims Netflix had access to seeing “Luck” due to its “considerable advertising and marketing,” so he believes it’s no surprise they ended up producing “Squid Game” in 2018 or 2019. Netflix’s company market value increased by over 900 million dollars, and Shah wants a piece of the pot. Netflix has yet to comment on the situation.
